Most ITAD programs charge you to make equipment disappear. Ours starts by asking what’s still worth something: units and boards with residual value get recovered and resold, and only what’s truly done goes to secure destruction and responsible recycling.

IT asset disposition has two jobs, and most providers only do one well. The first is risk: data on retired equipment has to be destroyed defensibly, with documentation that stands up when someone asks what happened to a specific drive. We handle that with data sanitization following NIST SP 800-88 media-sanitization guidelines, chain-of-custody documentation from pickup through final disposition, and secure destruction and responsible recycling for what can’t or shouldn’t be resold, all in Canada, so data-bearing assets never cross the border.

The second job is value, and it’s where a repair-led operation changes the math. A processor that only sanitizes and shreds treats your retired fleet as waste with a fee attached. Because our bench repairs down to the board level, units (and boards inside units) that still hold residual value get repaired, refurbished, and resold instead of destroyed. The same disposition stream that used to only generate invoices starts generating returns, and you see per-asset what was recovered, what was recycled, and why.

Data sanitization

Recovered units move through resale channels, including Skadi, a Canada-only refurbished channel, and return money against the cost of the program.

Assets with no recoverable value go to secure destruction and responsible recycling, documented per asset so the loop is closed on paper as well as in fact.

    We agree the asset list, data-handling requirements, and disposition rules, then equipment is collected or shipped in, logged by serial from the first scan.

    Sanitize

    Storage media is sanitized following NIST SP 800-88 media-sanitization guidelines, with method and result recorded per device before anything moves further.

  3. STEP 03

    Assess for recovery

    Each asset is evaluated for residual value, as a working unit, a repairable unit, or a source of recoverable boards and parts, against your disposition rules.

  4. STEP 04

    Recover or destroy

    Value-bearing assets route to repair, refurbishment, and resale; the remainder goes to secure destruction and responsible recycling.

  5. STEP 05

    Report & settle

    You receive asset-level disposition records and settlement for recovered value: the full chain of custody, closed and documented.

How is your ITAD different from a standard disposition provider?

Most ITAD processors sanitize, shred, recycle, and invoice. Value recovery, if offered, means reselling whatever powers on. We run ITAD out of a repair operation that works down to the board level, so units and boards with residual value get repaired and refurbished for resale instead of destroyed. That converts part of your disposition cost into returned value, and the rest of the program (sanitization, chain of custody, destruction) runs the same as it would anywhere serious.

How do you sanitize data-bearing devices?

All storage media is sanitized following NIST SP 800-88 media-sanitization guidelines, with the method chosen per media type and the outcome recorded per drive and per asset. Devices that can’t be sanitized to that standard are physically destroyed. Every result is documented in the chain-of-custody record for that asset, so you can answer for any specific serial later.

Does our data stay in Canada?

Yes. All processing happens at our depot in Markham, Ontario: data-bearing assets are sanitized in-country before any disposition, and nothing crosses the border with your data on it. For organizations with data-residency obligations, that removes an entire category of exposure that comes with shipping retired equipment to a US processor.

What documentation do we get?

Asset-level records for the full program: chain of custody from pickup to final disposition, sanitization method and result per device, and the outcome for every serial (recovered, resold, or sent to secure destruction and responsible recycling). Records are available through the portal and the API, so they can feed your asset register directly rather than living in a PDF.

Can ITAD be part of a larger program instead of a standalone service?

That’s how it works best. In a reverse logistics program, ITAD is the tail, the disposition path for returns that can’t be refurbished. In a lifecycle program, it’s the retire stage: recovered fleet devices are sanitized, and value flows back before the remainder is recycled. One partner closing the loop means the scrap tail is processed under the same tracking as everything else, instead of leaking to a second vendor.
